Where to sleep in Mexico City
TL;DR: It depends on your vibe. I’m an NYC millennial gal, so here’s my hot take on each neighborhood but I’ll say, Condesa is my favorite.
My absolute favorite. Think of it as the Upper West Side of Manhattan - a perfect blend of city and sophistication. The neighborhood feels quaint and charming. Parque España just adds to the green spaces you’ll find surrounding you everywhere in this neighborhood. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from but I wouldn’t consider it a “lively nighttime” area. It is a central location and makes it super accessible.
I’d call this the modern day Williamsburg of Mexico City. It has a vibrant, bohemian vibe. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops to choose from. It’s also known for the “lit spots”, for night owls!
This is Tribeca (or the Beverly Hills) of Mexico City. It’s bougie, to say the least. But you can find some top-notch places to eat and high-end shopping, if that’s what you’re into.
Not far from Roma Norte but it does have a more residential feel, with more traditional and local businesses. Like most neighborhoods in Mexico City, there are parks and tree-lined streets everywhere. If you want to stay away from the madness, with Roma Sur or La Condesa are good resting spots.

Tacos
It’s not just about getting tacos, you have to get street tacos. But if you aren’t an adventurous foodie, here are some non-street options:
El Pescadito: Amazing fish tacos. Recommend: queso-tote, ta-cotote, taco de camaraon. Service is also amazing! Loved this spot for lunch.
Tacos Don Juan: Recommended by Tacos Chronicles on Netflix. Best Suadera tacos and de Carnitas y birria. Mainly popular in CDMX so don’t miss it.
El Borrego Viudo: Recommended by a local! Eat-in & drive-through taqueria; tacos al pastor are a must-try.
Food & Drinks
If you’re looking for vibes, here are a few spots:
Páramo: In Roma Norte, a buzzy eatery for Mexican dining & drinking, fitted with a skylight, greenery & string lights.
Bósforo: Described by the New York Times as, “"A mezcalería tucked behind red curtains and steel doors that doesn’t advertise — but everyone seems to find it anyway after its 7 p.m. opening time."
Carajillo Masaryk: Colorful, hip restaurant with an artful vibe featuring a robust drink menu & modern cuisine.
Restaurants
Macque (various locations): Best breakfast in town! Several locations - one in Polanco too. Don’t get a spinach omelette, you’re in Mexico after all! 😂 Huevos machaca are my favorite. And if you want a traditional Mexican experience, have some hot chocolate.
Contramar (Roma Norte): Fig tart, tuna tostadas, fish…and anything else you’d like.
Broka: Haven’t been but on my list. Bistro with a warm vibe & a charming inner terrace, offering a la carte & a changing 3-course menu.
La Casa de Toño: Where the locals go, try the Pozole.
Coffee+
“Mexico es cafe y chocolate”
Tierra Garrat (various locations): Really good coffee and cocoa.
Espíritu Sano: (La Condesa) A perfect spot to have coffee and breakfast, and work from.
La parroquia: (Coyoacán) Dessert! Better quality & taste than Moro
